Growing Information:

Planting Instructions:

  • Timing: Start indoors four weeks before the last frost date. Transplant outside once temperatures are consistently above 15°C (60°F). Optimal germination temperature is 20-30°C (68-86°F), using bottom heat for best results. Seeds sprout in 7-14 days.
  • Starting: Sow seeds 5mm (¼”) deep. Transplant with a spacing of 10cm (4").
  • Growing: Cumin needs a long hot season to thrive. It begins flowering mid-summer, attracting beneficial insects with its umbelliferous flowers.

Harvest Tips:

  • Harvest: Cut seed heads to dry indoors as late in the season as possible, or as soon as seeds start to fall from the seed head.
  • Seed Life: Usual seed life is 2 years under optimal storage conditions.
