Discover the versatility and reliability of Alaska Peas from West Coast Seeds. This heirloom variety, dating back to 1880, thrives in cool soil, making it perfect for northern climates and ideal for both spring and fall plantings. Alaska Peas are renowned for their short vines, growing to only 90cm (36 inches), and benefit from simple support like twigs or a low trellis net. Once known as 'Earliest of All,' this variety matures in just 55 days, yielding round, straight, pale green pods, each containing five to eight smooth peas. For drying as soup peas, allow the plants to mature to 80 days.

Key Features:

  • Earliest of All Peas: Matures in just 55 days.
  • Heirloom Seeds: Heritage variety dating back to 1880.
  • Cool Soil Adaptability: Excellent for spring and fall plantings.
  • High Yield: Produces heavy yields of round, pale green pods.

Growing Information:

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Timing: Plant as early in spring as soil can be worked. Optimal soil temperature: 10-20°C (50-70°F). Seeds sprout in 7-14 days.
  • Starting: Sow seeds 2cm (1") deep; after April 15th, sow 5cm (2") deep. Space seeds 2-7cm (1-3") apart. Avoid soaking seeds in damp soils.
  • Days to Maturity: 55 days from direct sowing.

Growing Tips:

  • Use well-drained soil with finished compost.
  • Add 2 cups of rock phosphate or bonemeal for every 3m (10') of row.
